There has never been a better time to be a member of the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce. Our January monthly luncheon at the Eagles on Samuel Moore Parkway was nearly standing room only. Thank you to the membership and staff at the Eagles for having such a great facility in which to meet.
Our speaker, Dr. Al Long, former Superintendent of Mooresville Schools, delivered a powerful message on the need for organizations to have a focused, executable strategic plan. Dr. Long, the owner of Power Ventures, has facilitated strategic planning across the United States to help for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and served as a Professor Emeritus at Indiana Wesleyan. Most of all to our chamber and its members, he is an untapped well of knowledge and wisdom who is ready to share what he knows for the benefit of the Mooresville Chamber community. Thanks to the generosity of Ken Wooden and the entire team at Morgan County Habitat for Humanity, that untapped opportunity is now available.
Beginning next month, Habitat will host a series of informational workshops led by Dr. Long for local business leaders at their new headquarters at 525 S. Indiana St. in Mooresville. At the first of these meetings, Dr. Long will lead attendees through the process of evaluating their current organizations using a S.W.O.T. analysis — strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats — creating a corporate vision and mission statement, creating a strategic plan, and leading and motivating your company. Each workshop will hold a maximum of 35 Chamber members — limit two per organization.
Workshops will be 9 a.m. to noon each day as follows:
— March 2: Strategic Planning 101
— June 1: Leadership 101
— Sept. 7: Motivation 101 / Making a Difference
Getting the most out of an organization’s most valuable resource — its people — is vital in today’s ultra-competitive world. Members of the Mooresville Chamber will have a front row seat, at no cost, to an experience that could easily cost more than a thousand dollars per person per session. Chamber members may sign up by contacting chamber executive director Mindy Taylor at 317-831-6509 or mindy@mooresvillechamber.com.
We want to again thank Dr. Long and the team at Morgan County Habitat for Humanity for investing in the success of our business community. Join the chamber and be a part of this and many other great opportunities in 2018.
