Change is the name of the game for Mooresville

Change is good. Spring is a time for change. With spring comes a change in the weather, a change for the good — usually. Our downtown landscape has changed with the addition of a new park. This will be the first spring and summer with our new park downtown, and there are lots of fun activities currently in the planning stages. This spring, we also have a change in the tax code which will reduce taxes for most people. For most, these are all changes for good. Of course, there are those that feel differently, but you can’t dispute that

‘People of Mooresville’ represent community

Many of you have heard of the People of Walmart website. Filled with people wearing Halloween costumes in the middle of July, or the farmer who happens to also be wearing stilettos at three o’clock in the morning, the website has it all. These quick captures display the variety of shoppers that frequent their local Walmart. I am not sure how this craze got started but I certainly think to myself every time I go into Walmart; could I end up on that site? The reality is we all get caught once in a while being a part of a

Investing in our chamber members

Several Mooresville Chamber of Commerce members took advantage of a new training opportunity to strengthen their own skills and their business plans. Dr. Al Long presented Strategic Planning 101 last week as part of a leadership workshop series co-sponsored by the chamber and Morgan County Habitat for Humanity. Investing in our members and their businesses is an important part of our chamber priorities and an important part of our community’s future. We’re thankful for Dr. Long’s willingness to share his expertise. The series will also include a Leadership 101 and Motivation 101. At the first workshop, participants from a variety

Chamber to host leadership series

There has never been a better time to be a member of the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce. Our January monthly luncheon at the Eagles on Samuel Moore Parkway was nearly standing room only. Thank you to the membership and staff at the Eagles for having such a great facility in which to meet. Our speaker, Dr. Al Long, former Superintendent of Mooresville Schools, delivered a powerful message on the need for organizations to have a focused, executable strategic plan. Dr. Long, the owner of Power Ventures, has facilitated strategic planning across the United States to help for-profit and not-for-profit organizations

Mooresville chamber welcomes news members in new year

The Mooresville Chamber of Commerce is off to a fast start in 2018. In our last article, Susan Haynes, our president, introduced herself while laying out the rich body of tradition and experience, we as a leadership team — and the chamber as a whole — have at our fingertips. Mooresville and its chamber have a lot to be proud of. To start out the new year, the board of directors, of which I am privileged to serve as its vice president, renewed our annual commitment to be responsive to the needs of our members and our community. We asked

Looking forward to 2018

A new year has begun for the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce — its 67th, but my first sitting in the president’s chair. As a student of history, I believe in looking at the past to prepare for the future. I’ve been talking with current and past board members as well as looking through documents of our history. I begin this year looking in awe at the list of those who have come before me. Not only do I see entrepreneurs and business owners, I also see past Mooresvillians of the Year, philanthropists and those who’ve held political office for the
